Having racked my brains, I think this refers to Hadley's, a long-established and well-loved pet shop, which also sold novelty toys, like sneezing powder and catapults (before the days of health & safety!).
It was adjoined to a pub, the Sampson, which had been demolished in the early 1960's, after a lorry crashed into it. Thankfully, the pub was empty, as it was outside licensing hours of that time. but Hadley's had to be shored up by heavy wood framework, and remained so until it's destruction. Only the framework survived.
I have a photo, but I am new to this site, and am having trouble uploading it, but it is on Facebook, page entitled Bromsgrove Past & Present. It is colour, good definition, and clearly shows the extent of the fire damage, and the surviving framework. Photos of the lorry crash are also there.
My first home was at 38 Worcester Road, so I am fairly certain this is the building you are looking for, hope this has been useful.
