TOPIC: William and Jemima (Robinson) Cottam

William and Jemima (Robinson) Cottam 12 years 7 months ago #19

Hi,
I am doing family research and I can't find where my Great Grandparents are buried. I believe it would be in Bromsgrove, but not sure.
Background
William Cottam Born 1844 and died in 1912 in Finstall, Bromsgrove. Jemima (Robinson) Cottam Born 1849 and died 1927 in Bromsgrove. In 1901 they lived in Inkberrow and 1911 Census shows them at Finstall Vale, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, England. From a family photo album, I do have the picture of their headstone but nothing as to where they are buried. I also have their probate records but no hint of where they are buried in those records either

Can anyone help find the cemetery where they are buried or point me in the right direction of who to contact.
Thanks,
Murray

I'll ask Sharon Kibble who is the Cemeteries Officer for Bromsgrove and Redditch if she can check her database for the grave in Bromsgrove Cemetery. Not sure if St Godwald's Church, Finstall had burials in its churchyard, in which case they may be there.

Hello Murray,
Having heard (via the previous correspondent) that William and Jemima are not listed in the burials for Bromsgrove cemetery, I checked whether they might be buried in Finstall. A transcription of the inscriptions on the graves at Finstall was made some years ago by BMSGH (The Birmingham and Midland Society for Genealogy and Heraldry). I looked at the microfiche edition and found William and Jemima listed, although Jemima has been incorrectly transcribed as Jemma. The graveyard in Finstall is located opposite Bromsgrove Rugby Club some distance away from St. Godwald's Church. If you would like me to look for the grave and take an up to date photograph, please let me know.

Hi Pat,
Thank you so much for replying and giving me the information on where my Great Grandparents William and Jemima Cottam are buried! Seeing that I live in Canada, I'm not familiar with the different areas in England. I wasn't sure if they were buried in the same cemetery as my Great Aunts and Uncles, as they died in Yorkshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire. My Grandfather is buried in Canada of course, as he immigrated to Canada in about 1892.
If it isn't too much to ask and if you don't mind, I would truly love to have an updated photo of their headstone, as all my Mom has is a black and white photo. Thanking you so much again!!!
