Fish House Mill Stoke Prior 12 years 7 months ago #23

Hello

I have some death certificates and some of my ancestors lived at the Fish House Mill around 1845 to 1847 . They were Needle Makers . The surname is Retchford and I am interested to know is there any pics of the place and any information available relating to their time in it. They moved to Redditch around 1847. the info is from the death certificates.
Hope this is not too much to ask!

Cheers
Tony

Hi Tony,

This may be of no use, however looking at the map of this area in 1885 it shows Fish House Mill (Stoke Pound) as a Corn Mill. It may have been something different earlier in the 1800's or there may have been workshops or similar on the same site (nail or needle manufacture). The 1841 census won't be that much help either as it's the census with the least amount of information - just basic stuff. The other option is to go to Bromsgrove Library and search their Newspaper articles although I'm not too sure if they go back that far. Another could be looking at the trade directories, but again, due to the date you're looking at, they may not help. The only other option would be to look through the Parish records......

Thought I'd try and help as you had recieved no reply.

Regards,

Leigh
