Bill Lambert, Volunteer Coordinator at the Worcester–Birmingham and Droitwich Canals Society has advised us of a new conservation project on the lime kilns at Tardebigge Depot, starting in January 2013.
This is the starting phase of a project between the Worcester–Birmingham and Droitwich Canals Society and Canal and River Trust. The work will be undertaken with advice from David Viner who is the Heritage Advisor for CRT.
The purpose of this project is to improve the site and conserve the structure. As David examines the site then a programme of work will be developed across the coming year.
DATE AND TIME:
To start this project off we have two work days on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th January 2013.
Start time will be at 0930 for registration and site induction. Finish around 3.30pm
VENUE:
Canal and River Trust depot at Tardebigge, Worcester – Birmingham Canal.
New Wharf, Alcester Road, Tardebigge, Bromsgrove, B60 1NF.
This initial work will be to start ground clearance to make the site generally more accessible. In particular we will start to remove the tree trunk from the front area of the kilns, do what we can to remove the two telegraph poles, level the ground and clean the site of litter etc.
Please be aware that weather conditions may force us to change the programme.
