The Society complies with the UK General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), which define responsibilities.
Bromsgrove Society Rights and Responsibilities
1) The Bromsgrove Society (“the Society”) understands and takes seriously its obligation with respect to holding data about its members. It will ensure, where possible and to the extent it can control, that members’ personal information is held in accordance with all relevant legislation.
2) The Society will only hold data about its members for the purpose of achieving its stated aims.
3) It is a condition of membership of the Society that members allow the Society to hold information about them. This personal data will be stored electronically and will be processed by the Society’s officials and its agents as necessary to enable the Society to fulfil its day-to-day functions.
4) No data held by the Society about its members will be passed to a third party without the specific permission of that member.
5) The Society will take whatever action it deems necessary to secure and protect the privacy of members’ information.
Members’ Rights and Responsibilities
6) A member may, at any time, request and be given a copy of the data the Society holds about that member.
7) A member may request amendments or corrections to data held by the Society about them and the Society will act upon such request.
8) Members are responsible for ensuring the Society is informed when there is a change in personal data in order to ensure that an accurate and up-to-date database is maintained.
9) If a member discontinues their membership of the Society, any data held about that member will be deleted from the Society’s records.
Access requests under point 6) above should be addressed in writing to the Data Protection Officer. Other requests regarding the routine updating or removal of data (points 7-9) should be addressed to the Membership Secretary. Terms and Conditions of Sale for Goods and Services and Memberships
Goods and Services
Our Terms and Conditions of Sale of Goods and Services cover prices, ordering, payment and the dispatch of goods and services. They also describe our commitment to provide goods and services of merchantable quality and to refund your payment if those goods or services are faulty or not what you ordered. They tell you what to do if an item is faulty or doesn't arrive in a reasonable time. The terms do not affect your statutory rights under English law.
According to the UK Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000, as amended 13th June 2014 shoppers must see the terms and conditions of sale before ordering.
Who are we?
The Bromsgrove Society (‘the Society’), an Educational Charity (Registered Charity No 510542), is a joint civic and history society, formed in 1980. All the services offered by the Society are provided by volunteer members. There are no paid employees.
Prices
The prices which are shown against each product or service include the shipping costs to either UK or Overseas addresses. Those prices are valid for orders placed at the time the prices are displayed by the Society website at www.bsoc.co.uk.

Payment
We can accept payment only via Paypal, where most credit/debit cards are accepted, and by sterling cheques which must be made payable to ‘The Bromsgrove Society’. Cheques should be sent to the Bromsgrove Society, c/o The Secretary, 139 Stourbridge Road, Bromsgrove B61 0AN. Cash payments are not accepted.
Dispatch of goods and services
We will normally arrange for goods to be dispatched within 15 days of receiving your order. The provision of services will take place or start within 15 days, unless a longer period is specified on the relevant pages of this website. As the society is run entirely by volunteers we will occasionally be unable to meet this timescale at bank holiday periods (e.g. Christmas, Easter etc.). Goods will be dispatched by Royal Mail, using Airmail for delivery outside the United Kingdom and Second Class post for delivery in the UK. Results of search services will normally be sent by e-mail.
Quality of Goods and Services and Returns Procedures
Our aim is that all our customers will be completely satisfied with the quality of the goods and services that they buy from us. If you are not satisfied with the quality of an item, or if an item is faulty or is not what you ordered, please e-mail us at This email address is being protected from spambots. When you have returned it we will send a replacement or a refund of your payment, whichever you request. A PayPal refund, when agreed, will be made within 10 days.

In law you have a separate right of cancellation during a "cooling off" period. If you wish to cancel for any reason other than those listed in the previous paragraph, you have 14 clear working days to let us know. The right to cancel does not apply to any of our search services where the search has been undetaken in accordance with your original instructions. You must return the goods to us at your own expense and take every care to ensure that the goods are safely returned.
Responsibility for Local Taxes and Duties

Applicable Law
These terms and conditions, your order and payment and the delivery of the goods and services you order, form the basis of a contract under the law of England and Wales between you the customer and the Society. Grant applications
The Bromsgrove Society is able to provide charitable grants to support specific projects in the town.
Applications should be made on the appropriate form (using the link below) and submitted to the Executive Committee for review. The Committee has a bi-monthly meeting at which grant applications are discussed. The Committee’s decision is final.
The types of project the Society would consider are varied but centre on the arts, local heritage, environment, community and culture. The Society supports recognised projects and organisations and does not fund individuals. Previous recipients of support have included:

Bromsgrove Cemetery Restoration

The Bromsgrove Cemetery was built in 1858. In 2007 the Memorial at the centre of the Cemetery was taken down for reasons of safety. It was then taken, in pieces, to a conservation stone mason in Worcester, until September 2011 when it was removed to a more protective site.
Avoncroft Museum of Buildings, The Bromsgrove Society, The Housman Society, The Victorian Society, and the District Council, began working together in 2011 to restore the Memorial. The Heritage Lottery Fund gave a generous grant towards the costs of restoration and the publication of a heritage trail, a tree trail, and information boards.
Generous donations to the funds were also made by the Giles Trust, Edward & Dorothy Cadbury Trust, Bromsgrove Court Leet, The Bromsgrove Society, The Housman Society, and many individuals. The Memorial was re-erected in its original position by Croft Ltd in May 2013.
The carved stone memorial is of high Victorian design, made from four different coloured stones, and when you enter the Cemetery by the main gate, is an important feature of the design of the place. The Cemetery is a quiet and beautiful oasis with wonderful trees, many of which were planted when the Cemetery was created.
John Adams was, when he died aged 91 in 1858, one of the oldest and most influential inhabitants of the town, employing large numbers of Bromsgrove people. He was A.E. Housman's great-great-uncle.
There are many other historic memorials in the Cemetery, some of which are featured in the recently created Historic Walk leaflet. The research needed for this proved to be very interesting and we hope will raise more appreciation of the Cemetery in Bromsgrove.

About the Bromsgrove Guild
The Bromsgrove Guild of Applied Arts was founded in 1898 by the sculptor Walter Gilbert. During the next 70 years the firm developed into a thriving commercial enterprise, acquiring an international reputation for the high quality of its craftmanship in metalwork, woodcarving, plasterwork, stained glass and other media.
Celebrated Guild contracts included Liverpool's famous Liver Birds, ornate metalwork on the great Cunarders Lusitania and Queen Mary, and the statue of Hygiea which stands in the garden of Chequers, the Prime Minister's country residence. However, the Bromsgrove Guild's most memorable commission was to create the wrought iron gates of Buckingham Palace. As a result of completing this particular task the Guild received a Royal Warrant in 1908.
When not working such high profile projects, the firm produced large quantities of lead rainwater goods, garden statuary, fountains, sundials, wrought ironwork and bronze light fittings.
